In order to get those most out of Meteor, you need to set your environment up. As Meteor is at its best when coupled with the rich metadata that you have on your htpc, it's important that you've got everything set up.
Everyone's setup is different, so Meteor won't automatically work for everyone. In order to get the most out of Meteor, we find the following process to be the best:
For music and recorded TV, Meteor uses the Windows Media Player libraries and for videos, Meteor looks at all the folders in the Windows Videos library. The best way to do this is set up specific locations for your libraries and just drag and drop items there, or you can right-click on a folder and select "Include in Library", to fine-control things.
Meteor uses the same files used by Media Browser
(metadata.xml) and fetched by programs such as
Metabrowser and MediaScout. If
this stuff isn't found, Meteor will do its best impression of a wizard and attempt
to parse your files directly; but this is not ideal. Alternatively, as of version 1.2
Meteor can find this metadata itself - go here to see how to set it up!
We have no affiliation with any of the programs above, but we do
use that stuff to set things up.
Once you've set up your libraries and folders and grabbed some quality metadata, all you need to do is start Media Center and Meteor does the rest!
If you have multiple computers in your home, you can set up your Meteor installation so that Meteor will recognise all of your computers and allow you to choose between them. Please check out this handy guide for details.
If you have any issues installing, running or connecting to your Meteor service, check out this page for details of what you can do from here.
